I was raised in and around Chicago, lived briefly in Manhattan and settled in San Francisco. Years of writing feature articles, vaguely compromising first-person essays, marketing copy and flat-out spin doctoring heightened my interest in the narrative aspects of visual art. It's all about the story.

The past couple of years I've been living in the foothills of the California Sierras, a place of astonishing natural beauty with some unusual local customs: a saloon on the main drag of the county's only town will sell you guns and bullets along with your beer, but pharmacies keep cold medicines under lock and key. I try to stay healthy—and watch my back.
